Healthy nursery food at Appletree Day NurseryOur dedicated cook Diane provides the children with wholesome daily fresh meals, with vegetables and fruit being a priority. She caters for each child individually, taking into account any special dietary needs, even down to the size of meal each child prefers. We have vast experience of many varied allergies and Diane is always careful to ensure children receive identical-looking meals to avoid anyone feeling excluded or left out, even though the ingredients may be quite different due to allergies or intolerances.
All of our fruit and veg is bought from a local greengrocer, delivered fresh every Monday morning, and all other items are also locally-sourced. The menu is displayed weekly in the hallway on the notice board and is based on a four-week rota. We provide breakfast (cereal and toast) and a mid-afternoon snack. Snacks are healthy and consist of breadsticks, carrot/cucumber sticks with fresh or dried fruit. Some typical meals we provide are: • Fish in parsley sauce • Irish stew • Tuna pasta bake • Chicken, potatoes, veg & gravy • Mild chicken curry & rice • Chicken pie / fish pie • Beef goulash & rice • Crunchy vegetable crumble • Vegetable chili and rice Vegan, gluten, soya/dairy free meals are also provided. The various vegetables we use include carrots, peas, cabbage, spinach, courgettes, parsnips, onions, broccoli, peppers, cauliflower and swede. We also provide a ‘high tea’ in the afternoon which consists of soup, sandwiches, muffins or crumpets, beans on toast, tortilla wraps or pizza etc. Fresh fruit is always supplied daily, whether at lunch or at high tea. On special occasions, Diane also bakes homemade sponges, shortbread biscuits and scones. All food and snacks given are included in our fees. |
